Why You Need to Brand Your Vacation Rental

Writer's picture: Alexis BennettAlexis Bennett

Branding your vacation rental is probably not be the first thing that comes to mind, when you think about creating the best experience for your guests. Actually, it is one of the best ways to stay above the competition.

When we talk about branding your vacation rental, we are talking about a multitude of things. Just like a business, there are many things to consider when beginning your branding journey.

First on the list is the branded experience.

This is where you do your research and come up with a game plan.

  • What is the look and feel of your vacation rental?

  • How can you design the rental to fit your target renter?

  • What are the key features of your rental that make it stand out from the crowd of other rentals in the area?

  • How can you distinguish yourself from the competition?

Finding the answer to those questions sometimes takes research. Research your competitors. Research the industry. Research your demographic. Make a list of ways that your vacation rental stands out.

Once you know those answers, it’s time to design the space and highlight those key features so that you can stand out in listings. This is a great time to hire a interior designer if you need some help creating a space that is inviting and unique to your prospective renters.

Next, your vacation rental name, tagline, logo and descriptions.

When deciding on a name for your vacation rental, be sure it is catchy and descriptive. It should draw interest and be a good fit for your target renter.

One of the best first steps for this is a list of adjectives describing your rental. From that list, create a name that will catch your prospective renter’s eye and be memorable.

Once you have created a name, you need to create a tagline. This will quickly tell your prospective renters what your vacation rental brings to the table. Think: elevator pitch.

Simple, to the point, creative.

A logo for your vacation rental brings your brand even further. By creating a visual to use throughout your rental you create a brand that is cohesive and approachable.

Lastly, write a detailed description of your rental. Make it interesting, like a story that will make them want to have the experience. Be sure to include details about the amenities you offer and why they need to book your rental.

Now mimic the experience in photos.

Never underestimate the need for beautiful photos. Hiring a photographer is one of the best ways to gain interest in your rental.

This is the first thing people will see when they start browsing for rentals.

Your photos and descriptions are your first impression. If your photos don’t show off your rental, you will lose out on a lot of possible opportunities. Great photos will enhance your listing more than anything else.

Bring your vacation rental online with a social media presence.

Social media is one of the best ways to spread the word to your audience.

You need a plan for your social media and online presence.

Branding your social media accounts allows your prospective renters to get a feel for your rental outside your online listing. It will also help you to create a relationship with previous and future renters.

Bonus: they can share your rental with others, the best type of marketing you can get – and it’s free!

Your social media pages should fit the look and feel of your rental. Highlighting the things that make you stand out in the crowd of rentals. This is a great place to post reviews, photos, updates, and more.

Your social media should reinforce your brand and create relationships and bookings.

Branding your website.

Once you are listed on the vacation rental sites and social media, you should create a website for your rental. This is a great way to bring in direct bookings and return guests.

A website lets you create an experience for your prospective renter that goes beyond the listing site options. You can make the site as simple or extensive as you would like. The more you include, the more comfortable your renters will be when they book a stay.

Great photos, descriptions and reviews will bring your vacation rental to a whole new market. This will also help your listing in internet searches which can bring in a new clientele.

Branding your welcome book and guestbook.

Once your online presence is complete, you are ready to start booking your rental. Before your first booking, you need to be sure you have a well-designed welcome book/guest book.

This is a great first impression for your guests.

Your welcome book will make them feel comfortable with your house and the area. Listing amenities with photos, local hot spots, restaurants, etc. will ensure they have an experience they will not forget.

Creating a digital and printed book will allow them to view it in a way that is convenient for them.
